Description
This is a hands-on position for a Sr. Technical Operations Engineer or Technical Operations Engineer (based on experience) who will be a key member of our Operations team responsible for the operational and technical excellence of all of our systems including internal and hosted production servers. Responsibilities will include:
* Work hand in hand with our outsourced hosting provider to ensure efficient and smooth operation of our hosted production system including administration, monitoring, scheduling, capacity planning, troubleshooting, support and emergency response. Serve as part of the escalation path for Data Center issues and emergencies.
* Follow operational policies to mitigate risk and recommend improvements.
* Work with the QA, Development and Professional services organizations on timely and high quality message deliveries and new client deployments.
* Capacity planning for production systems. Work closely with the team to define requirements, cost, timing and operational plan for future expansion and growth of our production systems (self managed or partnership), followed by implementation.
* Maintain and upgrade the internal Corporate IT including reliability and security of corporate networks (LAN, WAN, Intranet, and VPN), email, backup, telephony, security, troubleshooting, and procurement.
* Manage the internal IT support for growing employee base
* Manage internal engineering environment including building and maintaining internal engineering servers, QA lab, and automated build system.
Successful candidates will have expertise in running all aspects of a hosted Web application from an operational perspective The position puts an emphasis on ability to independently troubleshoot issues by leveraging an extensive tool belt of skills and experience to find solutions.
The ideal candidate has a great attitude and work ethic, startup experience and has a very strong background in system administration and technical operations for high volume Java based web applications on Linux.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, or equivalent work experience

Technical Requirements
* 5+ years hands-on experience in Technical Operations as a system administrator in a Linux/Unix-centric environment.
* Extensive commercial experience designing, building, and administering Internet host/network services including but not limited to: Web (HTTP, SSL, Apache, Tomcat, etc.), Mail (Postfix, SendMail), DNS, Perl, Nagios, databases (Oracle, MySQL) and Java.
* High degree of proficiency with Unix/Linux system administration.
* Extensive experience managing data-centric, web-based applications
* Basic knowledge of Windows office environments (domain/file service/Exchange/PC/laptop hardware/networking)
* Experience building scalable, multi-tenant on demand (ASP, SaaS) solutions.

* Disciplined, detail oriented and well organized with a strong background in operational methodology.
* Rock solid analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly determine root causes of problems and drive towards solutions

Desired Skills & Experience
* Experience with high volume e-commerce applications highly desired.
* Expert in site monitoring tools: Nagios, Big Brother, SNMP, etc.
* Knowledge of relational database administration (Oracle, MySQL) of high volume web applications (i.e. administration, troubleshooting, automatic scheduling (cron/at), monitoring, configuration, tuning & optimization, backup and recovery).
* Experience with Email Service Providers, Spam filtering, DNS blacklists, feedback loops, whitelisting and email protocols.
* Strong Networking Experience - TCP/IP, Administration of networking hardware (Cisco, etc.), Network monitoring, Load Balancing
* Strong experience in Perl programming
* Familiarity with Ant build environment, Java, Bugzilla, Subversion, CruiseControl
* Comfortable managing Windows office environments and user support
