Description:  
Innovator in the development of fault tolerant and high availability platforms for Linux applications,
is looking for a Senior Software Engineer for component architecture and hands-on development of high-availability
Linux-based appliances. 

The successful candidate will join a small team of seasoned experts with a proven track-record of successful 
product development, and will be intimately involved with the development, architecture and future direction
of High Availability (iHA) appliance platforms. 
 
The work environment is fast-paced and multi-faceted, requiring
demonstrable skill in small group communication, rapid learning and goal attainment with minimal supervision.
Experience handling parallel development tracks and multiple projects will be highly leveraged.
An advanced level of understanding regarding Linux kernel and device driver development is mandatory;
demonstrable proficiency with C, Perl and shell programming skills is also required.  
Strong interpersonal and
communication skills (both written and verbal) are mandatory.  
Prior experience with high availability concepts is
strongly desired.

This position has responsibility for kernel, driver and operating environment support of Resilience appliance platforms,
both existing and upcoming.  
Prior experience with Linux, x86 hardware and Ethernet networking will be strongly
leveraged.  
This position will entail oversight and mentoring of staff.

Duties:
. Kernel and device driver development in the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 
  
environment, demonstrating an understanding of Linux community 
  
interaction, best practices and state of kernel hardware support
. New systems (appliance) bring-up on x86-based hardware
. Development and specification of kernel/driver acceptance 
  
and validation tests
. Driver evaluation and specification for supporting appliance
  
onboard I/O and subfeatures
. Consistent review of device driver stability and performance;
  
track vendor and community device driver developments
. User-space (distribution) modifications to support new appliance
  
models, I/O interfaces and features
. Constructive peer code review / analytical critique of 
  
designs and implementations
. Escalation coordination and support for platform-related issues
 
 
Required skills:
. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
. 8 yrs C programming in the Linux or Unix environment, with
  
demonstrable prior activities in kernel and driver development
. 4 yrs Linux kernel and/or driver development (2.4 or 2.6 -based)
. Advanced expertise with Linux administration and distributions
. Practical experience with configuration and use of common 
  
open source software packages
. Self-motivated, able to complete tasks on schedule with minimal supervision
. Adept at problem solving, creative thinking, producing reproducible results
 
Desired skills:
. Experience with Linux networking stack and Ethernet device drivers
. Professional experience with high availability software or HA 
  
system configurations
. Understanding of current x86 hardware architectures and I/O technologies
. Familiarity with performance testing methodologies, with an emphasis
  
on networking; familiarity with performance testing hardware, software
. Basic understanding of analog and digital circuits
. Small-team and distributed-team communications experience
