Rate:                                        W2 $55 to $65

 

Reports to:                               IT Manager - US Operations
Infrastructure

Background:

This position is primarily working on the day to day UNIX administration
tasks that ensure the smooth running of the UNIX engineering
infrastructure in the Sunnyvale (CA) Center. This includes installation,
configuration, development, maintenance and administration of company's'
various UNIX platforms.

 

The candidate will posses good communications skills and will work with
IT and engineering team members in the local office as well as those in
offices around the world. The candidate should also possess
assertiveness and have strong will to be successful.

 

Role

 

*          Perform basic Systems Administration tasks such as account
administration, changing permissions, quota changes, auto-mount
modifications etc. 

*          Troubleshoot and resolve both hardware and software problems.

*          Conduct research and make recommendations on products,
services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure
procurement and development efforts.

*          Provide support and maintenance of our Engineering cluster
environment.

*          Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new applications,
systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing
applications.

*          Recommend and execute improvement to Unix Systems in order to
provide efficiency, reliability and performance.

*          Liaise with other teams within IT and the company to provide
global consistency and adherence to Company's policies and procedures.

 

Essential Skills

 

*          3+ years experience post graduation in a System
Administration role.

*          Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining UNIX,
UNIX servers, and UNIX networks. [RedHat and Solaris]

*          Strong hardware skills for both the commissioning of new
systems and repair/maintenance of old.

*          Ability to use standard UNIX performance tools to analyze
system performance 

*          Analyze trends in system utilization to predict future growth
for capacity planning purposes. 

*          Ability to ensure system security and integrity

*          Strong shell programming and large scale scripting skills
[Bourne Shell, C-Shell, Perl]

*          Good technical knowledge of current network hardware and
standards.

*          Research new technologies and products related to UNIX
servers 

*          Strong ability to perform system architecture

*          Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative
environment

 

Desirable Skills

*          BS degree in EE, CS, MIS or equivalent 

*          Previous experience with compute clusters, preferably LSF
and/or Sun GridEngine, enterprise backup solutions  

*          Knowledge of the tools used for physical IC design and FlexLM
licensing.

*          Networking Experience, both LAN and WAN

*          Programming experience [C, Perl, TCL]

*          Knowledge of storage (NAS and SAN)

*          Knowledge of Windows on both servers and workstations

Personal Requirements
