Sr. Linux Systems Manager

We are expanding our Network Operations department.  We are looking for an individual contributor; hands-on Linux Expert with knowledge of online-hosted services.  The role is based in Sunnyvale, California and initially will require training abroad (2-3 weeks).  Some travel required.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

*	Learn and transition knowledge of key resource abroad; work with top technologist in the industry.
*	Architect and deploy Linux server farms in multiple datacenters.
*	Develop and manage central automatic installation and shared configuration systems.
*	Design and maintain server monitoring in different levels (Hardware, OS, applications, health).
*	Fine-tune systems for performance.
*	Design and manage server-security, account-security and permissions, multi-level access rights.

 

 Requirements / Skills:

*	Demonstrated Linux expertise with at least 6 years of hands-on practical experience in managing Redhat/Fedora server-farms in datacenter deployments.
*	Experience with administering messaging platforms, Postfix, procmail.  Knowledge of e-mail protocols and products.
*	Fluent in bash, Perl.  Other scripting tools are an advantage.
*	Knowledge of SNMP, Apache, storage and file-systems.
*	Solid experience in IP networking, routing and load-balancing in Linux environments.
*	Team player, responsible, welcoming technological challenges.
*	Well organized and detail-oriented.
*	Relevant or related Bachelors Degree in computer sciences or engineering.

 Systems Engineer

Primary Responsibilities:

 

*	Learn the existing systems and data-flows in the Commtouch datacenters, and the existing monitoring tools and procedures.
*	Develop and maintain automated monitoring procedures to accommodate new products and subsystems, as well as existing subsystems.
*	Work with R&D to define, develop, and deploy scripts that cover monitoring of systems and components in the Commtouch online service.
*	Identify, reproduce and resolve hardware, system software, and network problems in online-hosted environment.  Work with other teams as needed. 
*	Utilize automatic tools to monitor network and systems infrastructure, produce alerts, and take proactive corrective actions to prevent problems.  Develop tools that automatically correct common problems.
*	Manage the escalation procedures to different departments in the company. 
*	Participate in specification, procurement, design, deployment, and upgrades of the system. 
*	Build and lead the NOC team, train other NOC engineers.

 

Requirements / Skills:

*	Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
*	1-2 yrs RedHat Linux systems administration
*	Ability to program in bash, Perl. vbScript.  Other languages are an advantage.
*	A solid understanding of online-hosted services environments.
*	Relevant or related Associates or Bachelors Degree in computer sciences or engineering.
*	Prefer previous QA and/or Monitoring of online-hosted services.
*	Aptitude and interest in managing a small team of Network Systems Engineers.
