If you are good in providing customer support and have experience in any flavor of Linux/Unix, I'd love to hear from you. This is an one-step-above entry level position.
The position title is: Computer Resource Specialist/Computer Resource Specialist II. The position is with UCO/Lick Observatory, Network, Information & Computing Services (NICS). The 'O' in UCO stands for Observatories. Yes it's that white building on Mt Hamilton. No the work location is not there. The POSITION is LOCATED AT UC, SANTA CRUZ.
POSITION INFORMATION
It is a Full Time, Career position with a Starting Salary Range: $42,012-$49,368/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. JOB # 0701353. Position is open until filled; Initial Review Date: 11-26-2007. This is when all applications that recieved by this date are gathered and sent to the hiring manager. It's kind-of important if you want to get in on the first round of reviews because there may just be one round of reviews.
Qualifications include:
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows and Apple/Macintosh operating systems.
Experience with various peripherals, printers and scanners and the process of connecting and setup.
Experience with a broad variety of industry-standard workstation and server software applications.
Ability to isolate, diagnose and resolve basic software and hardware malfunctions.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel.

ABOUT the NICS DEPARTMENT
The Network, Information & Computing Services (NICS) group provides computer services for 200+ computer users on Sun Solaris, RedHat/CentOS Linux, Apple MacOSX, and Microsoft Windows workstations. Core computing and network services and support are provided for 200 active network nodes in 5 buildings on the UCSC campus in addition to secondary computing support for the Lick Observatory located on Mt. Hamilton. As a member of NICS and under general supervision, the incumbent will provide a wide range of technical support services to faculty, researchers, staff and students of UCO/Lick Observatory and the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Within the NICS group, the incumbent has responsibility for front-line maintenance of workstations and related services.
