Linux Applications Engineer (Support), Alameda, CA

 

Wind River Systems in Alameda has a great opportunity for an Applications Engineer specializing in Linux. The candidate we are seeking is an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with a strong desire and ability to work with the customer to resolve their technical problems by troubleshooting and debugging OS issues in a real-time embedded environment.

 

Please note:   this is not a Development or IT position for Systems Administration or Desktop Support.  

 

Duties:

- Provide technical customer support on Wind River products

- Communicate effectively with customers to resolve their problems

- Communicate effectively with account teams on customer issues

- Document customer issues and resolutions accurately and thoroughly

- Develop technical content for online support site

- Participate in support process improvement activities

 

Requirements:

- Strong Linux knowledge

- Strong C or C++ knowledge

- Comfortable with UNIX and/or Windows development environments

- Device driver development experience highly desired

- Strong familiarity with working with the Open Source Community

- Software development experience on one or more common embedded processor types (PowerPC, MIPS, X86, ARM, etc)

- Experience in embedded systems programming a plus

- Strong troubleshooting skills

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Self-motivated, independent and comfortable working directly with customers

- Technical or field support experience preferred

- Experience writing Linux kernel modules

- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
