Symmetricom-San Jose is looking for a creative, self-motivated individual to
assist in the design and develop embedded software solutions for next
generation time and frequency synchronization products.  

 

The ideal candidate will work as a member of the TSD software development
team, taking on Project Lead and/or Developer roles to design, develop and
test software for telecom equipment. The candidate may support other teams
such as Global Service and Product Marketing in troubleshooting and
resolving customer issues as well as providing sustaining support for
released products.


Essential Qualifications


- BS degree

- A minimum of 5 years of industry embedded software development experience

- Must have development experience with Embedded Linux on at least one
completed project  

- C and C++ programming skills

- Track record of successful accomplishment on past projects.

- Well-versed in software development methodologies and development tools. 

- Self-starter.  Demonstrated ability to drive and attain results.

- Development of embedded software for telecom applications

- Hands-on experience with communications protocols and technologies such as
ATM, IP, Frame Relay, T1, E1.

- Development Experience with SNMP interfaces a plus

- Experience with industry-standard product development methodologies
including - document control, source code control, change management and
defect tracking.

- Understanding of hardware subsystems, interfaces, and debugging techniques

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

 


Desired Qualifications


- Project development experience using MontaVista Linux

- Linux shell script experience

- Familiarity with open-source packages

- Proven ability to lead software teams from requirements definition phase
through development and system testing  

- Knowledge of deployment methods for embedded linux-based products

- Linux device driver experience

- Design of boot and manufacturing configuration for embedded linux systems

- Experience with test equipment for measurement of timing and protocol
packets

- Familiarity with Timing and Synchronization.  For example, experience with
GPS, software phase-locked loops would be a big plus

- Object-oriented modeling and design

- Experience with FPGAs, either development or interfacing

- Java programming skills and experience

- NTP experience

- IEEE-1588 (Precision Time Protocol) knowledge

- Knowledge of MKS 

- Development in area of alarm handling, logging, reporting

- Knowledge of security protocols, such as TACACS+, Radius

- Knowledge of project build script techniques
