My client is looking for a Senior Programmer to come aboard a small
well-funded start-up in Palo Alto. Founders and senior management have been
very successful in the past with building start-ups. This is a ground-floor
opportunity.
 
 

Position - Senior Programmer

 

Job Objective - Develop advanced technology for searching the World Wide
Web.

 


Background


 

Our well-funded Internet services startup is developing advanced
technologies for searching the World Wide Web. The company was founded by a
team of senior serial entrepreneurs with multiple successes in the Internet
space. We're looking to expand our team with talented and motivated
individuals committed to innovation in the Internet space.

 

Our development philosophy is rooted in a collaborative open-source ethic.
Code remains open to qualified developers, and is not 'owned' in any
exclusive way. We write code with an eye towards human-readability, with
simple clear algorithms and enough surrounding documentation to guide
newcomers through the maze. We define clear and controlled engineering
objectives, which are delivered in a consistent, predictable manner.

 


Responsibilities


 

.         Ongoing development of advanced search engine technologies.

.         Operational support for Linux, Apache, HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS,
clustered servers, load-monitoring, load-balancing running, monitoring and
tuning spiders and indexes.

.         Real-world deployment of production quality spiders.

 


Skills


 

.         Experience with autonomous web agents, HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS, link
analysis, distributed queue-manager, anchor text analysis 

.         Strong working knowledge of Linux, and Apache Servers Document
parsing including HTML parsing, PDF parsing, RSS, XML, relevance tuning,
image databases, linguistic processing, relevance algorithms 

.         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

 


Experience


 

.         Experience in requirements analysis, design, coding and unit
testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant web applications, disk
sub-system savvy Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering 

.         Sound software engineering fundamentals in design, development and
QA practices Good oral and written communication skills

.         Highly motivated and interested in being part of a talented &
small team
