We are looking for a senior manager to manage our team of Global Deployments
Project Managers. At the scale you will be dealing with, there will be many
complex processes and technical challenges that you will have to help your
teams solve. Please apply for this position only if you have a solid
background in Linux system administration, PC hardware, networking, and
datacenter infrastructure. We are looking for someone who can command the
intellectual respect of Google Engineers, as well as run and grow a highly
effective team of project managers.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in datacenter
deployments, networking and systems administration, as well as project
management and team management experience. Working with diverse groups to
create business cases, come up with creative solutions, and manage extremely
compressed schedules is a typical daily experience. Managing this group of
project managers requires maintaining big picture and microscope focus
simultaneously.

Responsibilities include:

   - Take full responsibility for prioritizing the projects presented to
   the group.
   - Be the contact point for the group in all corporate interactions.
   - Work with the full operations group and with Google's strategic
   planners to help design each new generation of technology and processes.
   - Actively mentor junior talent, and work with senior members to find
   exciting new areas for them to explore.
   - Coordinate and prioritize many competing requirements and external
   demands for resources and timelines.
   - Act as a technical sanity check (when appropriate) with project
   managers and engineers.
   - Work with upper management and the project teams to create, manage
   and stay within budgets.
   - Develop and maintain strong inter-group and function relationships
   across a large geographic area.
   - Manage a highly diverse group of technical project managers in
   multiple locations.

Requirements:

   - BS or BA in a technical field.
   - 4+ years experience with Linux system administration.
   - 5+ years as a manager of technical people (systems or network
   administrators, etc).
   - 2+ years as a manager of technical project managers.
   - Solid understanding of PC hardware architecture, maintenance, and
   repair.
   - 5+ years experience working in datacenters and building out server
   farm infrastructure.
   - Solid understanding of datacenter infrastructure.
   - Excellent oral and written communication skills.
   - Demonstrated successful project management.

Travel Requirements:

   - This job is based in Mountain View, CA, but may require 25-50%
   travel.
