Linux, Perl, & scripting skills to join a small team doing the systems
management of our high-volume Linux production applications environment.

Senior Linux Systems Engineer:  

 

As part of a general program renovating our core technology platform, we
are looking for a second Senior Systems Engineer to join the Tech Ops
group.  The primary objective of this role is to provide an improved
level of application support and maintenance, complementing the strong
Linux and hardware skills already present in the team. 

 

This engineer will also help with the day-to-day operations tasks
required to support our business, and will be regularly dealing with
issues outside of normal office hours as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

*	Updates and deploys software to the production environment
*	Migrates & retires existing deployments of in-house applications
as directed
*	Documents application workflows, dependencies and interactions
*	Designs and implements technical solutions required for
successful delivery of Production Operations objectives
*	Troubleshoots and rapidly resolves any application issues
escalated by first line production support
*	Develops scripts to automate processes and other tasks
*	Key contributor to Code Promotion processes

 

This role requires a self-motivated engineer with experience of
deploying very scalable, uniform and high availability applications to
an internet based business.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

*	7+ years experience as a senior systems engineer at a
high-volume internet based company
*	Strong familiarity and technical skills in the following areas
are key: Linux, Perl, shell scripts, Tomcat, some Java
*	Previous experience with application migration
*	Flexible, pragmatic, cool under pressure & energetic
*	Able to promptly respond to technology issues 24x7 (when
escalated by on-call staff)

 

IDEAL SKILLS:  

 

*	Previously worked at an internet business in a similar space
*	Previously worked at a startup
*	Skilled at low level, application performance profiling
*	Experience in PHP, JSTL, JSP, mySQL or Postgres

 

EDUCATION: 

*	Degree or equivalent experience
