Job Title: Validation Engineer
Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The candidate will be responsible for validating and testing a new 
video-on-demand and network PVR system for the IPTV (IP video) 
market.The candidate will be responsibile for reviewing system 
requirements and test cases. The candidate must identify and close any 
gaps to ensure complete test coverage. The engineering team for this 
system relies heavily on test automation. The candidate must be skilled 
at creating automated tests for use in a distributed environment. 
Besides system validation performed in internal labs, the candidate must 
assist in validating systems with lead service providers and cable 
operators. The candidate must collect acceptance criteria from field 
engineers and end customers. The acceptance criteria must be translated 
into written test plans. The candidate must be able to travel to 
customer sites when necessary to perform on-site validation tests.

In addition to strong technical skills, the candidate must possess 
strong verbal and written communication skills and have the maturity 
necessary to deal with senior level engineering managers. The candidate 
must be a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced 
environment. The canidate must have a strong track-record of completing 
deliverables on schedule.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend engineering team meetings. Interact with field sales and 
engineering teams. Participate in customers and partner meetings.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
3-5 years of experience in a system validation or SQA role Demonstrated 
expertise in at one or more scripting languages (TCL/Expect, Python, Perl)
Significant experience working in a Unix environment (Solaris, Linux)
Strong written skills to document test cases and file bug reports
Hands on experience using system level diagnostic tools (sniffers, load 
generators, command line utilities)
Hands on experience working with Ethernet switches and routers
Understanding of SNMP and remote management system concepts
Understanding of quality of service (QoS) metrics used in large-scale 
networks

This position may vary between a Staff Eng, SW or Sr. Stafff Eng, SW 
(Z-10 or Z-12) depending on the experience of the candidate.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
Understanding of high-availability architectures (fault detection, fault 
recovery)
Previous experience working with carrier-grade products
Basic knowledge of C++ and object oriented programming
Basic knowledge of IPTV, video-on-demand, network PVR, set top boxes, 
encoders, DRM systems

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 5

MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION: A BS degree is a minimum requirement. An MS 
or higher degree is preferred. FIELD OF STUDY:
