Job Title: SR. SOFTWARE ENGINEER - KERNEL/DEVICE DRIVER
Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Senior Engineer, responsible for bringup of 
hypervisor based virualization products (e.g. vmware, xen etc.) on Sun's 
Opteron based platform. This will also require working with various Sun 
internal and external teams for ensuring proper support and functioning 
of hypervisor OS on Opteron based enterprise systems. Primary functions 
of this job include:

* OS bringup on x86 enterprise systems in development

* Implement and debug driver, kernel and other possible issues in the 
hypervisor OS solution on Sun's x86 platforms

* Represent VMware/Xen kernel and system for expertise on various 
product teams

* Write and review functional design specifications and test plans

* Evaluate and fix bugs

* Technical collaboration with multiple cross functional teams within 
and outside Sun

* Respond to questions and help in defining strategy for VMware support 
on Opteron based enterpise systems being designed by Sun

* Follow the certification process to ensure platform's listing on 
relevant HCLs

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

- Reviewing product documentation

- Reviewing test plans

- Integration testing

- Presentations

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

- Kernel/device driver level development skills in Linux/Solaris 
environment

- Strong programming skills in C

- Technical understanding of BIOS architecture on x86 platform

- Strong Problem solving, troubleshooting and debugging skills in 
VMware/Xen or at least in one UNIX/Linux distribution

- Linux/x86 system bringup skills

- Proven technical leadership skills

- Expertise in Opteron/x86 based enterprise systems architecture.

This position may vary between a Staff Eng, SW or Sr. Staff Eng, SW 
(Z-10 or Z-12) depending on the experience of the candidate.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

- Direct development experience in VMware/Xen drivers and kernel area

- x86 assembly

- Exposure to VMware/Xen kernel and driver development

- VMware certification

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 9+

MINIMUM LEVEL OF EDUCATION: BS

FIELD OF STUDY: Computer Science or equivalent

ADDITIONAL COURSE WORK: Software Engineering
