SENIOR LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Administer and support a distributed Linux infrastructure for a
next-generation massively multi-player game.
* Provide architectural guidance and expertise in maintaining a
production systems environment that ensures 100% service uptime, best
practices-based configuration management, performance tuning, and robust
security practices.
* Install, Configure, Maintain Red Hat ES-based servers in a data center
environment.
* Plan and Implement OS upgrades, changes, and custom RPM deployments.
* Administer and customize high volume Apache and Tomcat installations
for custom java applications.
* Maintain Storage solutions based on directly attached RAID storage, as
well as iSCSI-based network storage.
* Maintain and extend open source monitoring tools such as Nagios,
Cricket, Rancid, etc.
* Ensure Business Continuity objectives are met through the diligent
maintenance of data backup/recovery processes and network security
practices.
* Develop key automation tools for streamlining workflow and systems
management
* Build and deploy new servers. Install, configure, and test operating
system , open-source, commercial and proprietary software.
* Maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures.
* Work collaboratively with development, QA and other administrators to
develop and implement improved deployment practices.
* Assist users with problem resolution and answer system usage
questions.
* Work with hardware and software vendors to resolve hardware outages
and software defects.
* Review log files and other server monitoring data for problems and
perform proactive maintenance.
* Troubleshoot application, network, and server level problems for
internal systems
* Monitor the availability of patches and updates, evaluate the
importance to our environment and schedule installations accordingly.
* Assist the Network Operations Centre (NOC) in operational problems and
troubleshooting
* Keep current with latest Linux hardware and software technology, and
evaluate technologies as needed.
* Experience researching and recommending technology solutions
* Participate in infrastructure and capacity planning
* 7x24 on-call rotation for support of production systems
QUALIFICATIONS
* BS in Computer Science preferred or 7 years IT systems administration
experience
* 5 or more years relevant experience in Linux/Unix Systems
administration, including design, implementation, ongoing
administration, and support of critical production systems. Red Hat
Linux systems administration preferred.
* Proficient Linux scripting skills in bash, perl, or python
* Must have had significant experience in architecting and deploying
high availability internet-based systems and have deployed tools such as
load-balancers, LVS, or redundant server clusters.
* Experience in storage solutions, including RAID, iSCSI, backup/restore
practices.
* Has administered firewalls and can demonstrate expertise in OS
security fundamentals for publicly accessible linux/unix servers.
* Experience in Postgres or MySQL DBMS.
* Experience with common Linux and/or Unix Systems administration tools.
* Experience with LDAP, DNS, DHCP, NIS, NFS, NAS, Jumpstart, Kickstart,
systemimager
* Experience working with 3-tiered architectures in J2EE hosted
environments (Apache, Tomcat, Postgres)
