UNIX / Windows 2K Systems Administrator 
 
- Contract to hire located in San Jose 
 
Primary Job Responsibilities: 
 
* Administer current applications and environments for client's
classified sites. 
* Learn about these sites, their changing requirements, and 
contribute to their success. 
* As needed, install and configure new applications and 
environments, including web servers, application servers, mail 
servers, routers, load balancers, DNS, monitoring agents, operating 
systems, system utilities, and development tools. 
* As needed, develop knowledge and expertise in administering the 
classified databases to provide backup for the other classified 
administrators. 
* Provide estimates for completing tasks and deliver as close to 
those estimates as changing priorities and requirements permit. 
* Create scripts to automate repititous tasks and provide 
documentation and training on how to use these scripts. 
* Work closely with developers, product managers, development 
managers, and marketing to understand requirements and propose 
creative and timely solutions. 
* Work closely with other client operations teams to understand and 
leverage client knowledge, processes, and tools to get tasks done 
efficiently and quickly. 
* Propose and implement solutions that deliver velocity and 
performance first, followed closely by quality, reliability, and 
scalability. 
* As needed, provide on-call responsibilities with classified 
train conductors, to keep our weekly features rolling out and to keep 
our production applications and environments always working. 
* Stay current on new versions and technologies that can provide 
new solutions or enhance existing features and ensure good velocity, 
performance, quality, reliability, and scalability. 
Job Requirements 
* 4+ years experience in system administration of scalable, 
distributed, fault-tolerant applications in Windows and UNIX 
environments. 
* Proven experience with web servers and application servers. 
* Must have worked with IIS or Apache and WebSphere or Tomcat. 
* Must have good knowledge of Windows and UNIX administration and 
tools. 
* Specific experience with Windows 2000, Linux, Solaris, Oracle, 
MySQL, and F5 a big plus. 
* Experience with developing scripts in these areas another big plus. 
* Proven results oriented person that can do independent work in a 
delivery focus organization.
