Position: Senior Application Optimization Engineer - Kernel level

The company:

Job Description:
The engineer will work with external Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) throughout the
various stages of the product sale cycles. The engineer will build on his/her experience
with performance optimization and tuning of shared memory applications on SMP and
clustered computers, and his/her intimate knowledge of operating-system (Linux, UNIX, 
and Windows) internals and kernel operation.

In pre-sales stages the engineer will perform preliminary performance analysis of ISV
applications and communicate the results to the ISVs: what and how can be optimized
in ISVs software to run efficiently on Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) hardware
on which the company’s software layer is installed, and work with the ISV team to verify
the recommendations and performance gains.

In post-sales stages the engineer will provide on-site and remote assistance in helping
the ISVs quickly tune their specific software to take advantage of the company’s based
hardware. The engineer will recommend software optimization techniques for software
intended to run on a large-scale NUMA platform. This will involve in-depth analysis of
multiple-CPU management processes, memory activity and I/O behavior.
The engineer will also identify open source application performance tests that can be
performed on newly developed multi-CPU (>8) shared memory computers and will also
optimize those applications. He/She will provide feedback to engineering/R&D on the
creation and modification of performance monitoring tools, possibly assist in
developing/enhancing these tools and, over time, the engineer will also be expected to
create best-practice recommendations for provision to application developers.

In addition to the above, the engineer will communicate with Operating System
development organizations and subcontractors (community for Open-Source) on
required changes to operating systems and environments, or specific components used
by them, to more effectively utilize Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) hardware.

Skills/Experience:
3+ years experience with performance optimization and tuning of shared memory
applications on SMP computers
3+ years experience with pre-sales and post-sales customer or partner support
Knowledge of UNIX SMP computers
Knowledge of Linux
Understanding of clustered application performance tuning is desirable
Knowledge of compilers and x86 assembly language preferred, C proficiency expected
Good troubleshooting skills
Perl experience is desirable
Excellent oral and written communication
Strong organizational skills, relationship building skills and ability to multi-task.
BS/ in computer science or related
