Client Company:
This position is on the peninsula with a major player in the commercial
Internet space. They've done well in the best of times as well as the
worst of times.  With the growing economy, they're growing now more than
ever.   I have worked with this hiring manager for over 5 years at
various companies.  
This position hasn't been written up by the client as of yet but I've
staffed his team before and knows what he looks for.  Again,  if you're

Database Engineer 
Responsibilities
Design, build and maintain database applications that allow data systems
to serve at high speed and high data volumes. Create systems
documentation. Ensure that all software conforms to build management
practices of company. Implement functionality within software to allow
for easy monitoring and maintenance of systems by NOC. 
The ideal candidate will have 8 or more years hands-on experience as a
paid Oracle database administration and is familiar with all aspects of
Oracle database design and administration. 
This staff level position is responsible for the day to day operation of
the company's information assets including the production, test and
development environments. A large component of the job will include the
maintenance of a large mission-critical data warehouse.
 Criteria
*	BSCS or equivalent work experience - 8+ years 
*	Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g, Oracle Standby databases,
Oracle 10g Real Application Cluster, Oracle 10g streams, PL/SQL and SQL 
*	Solaris 9, Solaris 10, Linux (Redhat + Mandrake) 
*	Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas file systems 
*	Experience running large production databases, with 100% uptime
requirements. 
*	Experience with large scale storage technologies - SAN / NAS,
HSM, backups 
*	Experience with data warehouses - 10+ TB. 
*	Demonstrated familiarity with internet technologies - DNS,
TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP 
*	Ability to use such tools as PERL, Unix shell and Java to
automate routine tasks 
*	Detailed knowledge and insight into tuning Oracle databases and
related applications.   
*	Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 
*	Able to train and mentor other members of staff. 
*	Must be a self-starting and highly motivated individual, able to
work quickly and change direction as priorities shift 
*	Positive attitude and willingness to take on new
responsibilities. 
*	Experience with HIPAA / SOX implementation in the Oracle world
is a distinct bonus.
