Software Engineer - Reporting 

Our client is seeking Software Engineers who would work closely with the
business partners to develop and support data warehouse systems built on
cutting-edge technology, which serves our business reporting and
analytical needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Software Engineer's duties typically include working with Oracle's
database technology, development tools and Data Warehouse products and
tools to build and maintain Data Warehouse systems. This candidate would
help in every stage of the project life cycle - gather requirements,
design, develop, test and support the application, which includes being
on-call support one week every few weeks on rotation basis. 

1. Design and Build Data Warehouse Reporting (80%) 
. Responsible to create value by leveraging data into information that
can be used for critical business decisions. 
. Participate in the design and implementation details of the full
lifecycle of a data model and the overall flow of data into core
reporting systems. 
. Execute efforts to collect, extract, transform, and understand a vast
array of business data from enterprise databases to build reports per
business requirements. 
. Work with business/PM to translate business needs into logical data
structures, including the definition of entities, relationships and
attributes. 
. Translate the logical data models into physical data models and work
with DBA to oversee the physical generation of the resulting database,
including optimization and indexing for performance. 
. Create data flow diagrams to illustrate where data originates and how
data flows within the organization. 
. Write ETL (Extract Transform & Load) scripts to extract data from
different sources, such as Oracle, Tera Data, DB2 or flat file 
. Continuous Improvement Initiatives -- based on best practices, look
for and suggest viable enhancements to our reporting systems 
. Identify and mentor other team member to enhance capabilities and
capacity 
. Provide project implementation expertise, and proactively identify
typical obstacles/resolutions 
. Partner effectively across all lines of businesses and effectively
cross-translate business and technical vocabulary 
. Create Reports using Business Objects analytical tool based on
business requirements 
. Writing ad hoc reports based on business requirement 
. Responsible for extensive SQL tuning efforts 


2. Data Warehouse Support & Maintenance (20%) 
. Debug ETL script written in SQL, PL/SQL and UNIX shell scripts 
. Respond quickly to critical requests to support business 
. Debug Business Objects reports performance issues 
. Provide 24/7support, with a one-week on-call rotation every few weeks 
. Perform data analysis for different business functions 
. Document work efforts to improve consistency and reliability 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
1) Competencies: Skills, knowledge, & abilities

. Very good understanding of Oracle technology and strong SQL tuning
skills 
. Very strong in writing SQL, PL/SQL, SQL*Loader 
. Very strong UNIX shell scripting 
. Very good debugging skills 
. Very good understanding of Business Objects 
. Good understanding of the ETL methodology 
. Good understanding of order management system 
. Solid project management and problem-solving skills 
. Ability to gather, synthesize and drive resolution of projects from a
cross-functional team 
. Understand business strategic possibilities and limitations well
enough to ask informed questions when working with the business team 
. Solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint programs

2) Experience: 
. 5+ years of Data Warehouse and Oracle database (version 9 or higher)
experience 
. 3+ years with one or more of the following Data Warehouse products:
Business Objects, any Data Mart Suites, Erwin, ETL tools, OLAP and/or
warehouse solutions 
. Working experience with Business Objects tools 

3) Minimum educational level: 
. B.S or M.S. in computer science or related field 

4) Physical Requirements: 
. Provide 24/7 support, with one-week on-call rotation every few weeks 
. Occasional business travel
