The Company: AdBrite, Inc. is a Sequoia Capital backed startup in San  
Francisco led by Philip Kaplan[1].  We currently serve around  
130,000,000 dynamically generated pageviews per day.

The Position: Junior/Midlevel Systems Administrator to help support  
our developers and manage our production Debian servers.  As  
mentioned above, we serve more traffic in a day than most sites serve  
in a month or even a year.  We run a highly available low-latency  
network based on a linux and PHP platform.  You should not be new to  
the command line.  You should love the command line and be familiar  
with many of the tools including grep, awk, netstat, lsof, etc.  This  
is a great position for a sharp unix coder who wants to move into the  
operations realm or a recent graduate with strong PHP/MySQL skills  
who wants to learn the art of systems administration.

Requirements:
     o- Debian Linux.  If you are a Debian package maintainer, that's  
great.  If you are a slackware expert, we can talk.  RHCE's probably  
need not apply.  You should be able to compile your own kernel and  
work around a linux system with ease.
     o- PHP.  Our codebase is almost exclusively PHP.  You need to  
have a working knowledge of PHP even though this isn't a programming  
job.  At a startup we all wear many hats.
     o- MySQL.  Both as a user and as an administrator you must know  
MySQL.  Do you know how to backup a 2 gig database?  What about a 10  
gig?  Even better, know how to restore it?
     o- Apache.  You have to know how to compile this from source.   
You should know some crazy apache tweaks and tips.  If you teach us a  
new one, we'll be impressed.  Serving as many pageviews as we do has  
made us optimization fiends (but no, we don't run gentoo, sorry).
     o- Qmail, DJBdns, etc.  We use the DJB set of software tools  
wherever it makes sense.  We like them, so should you.

Other related technologies:
     o- OpenBSD.  A great OS for networking gear, security gear and  
just general use.
     o- Networking.  If you have setup VLANs on a switch or BGP on a  
router, that's helpful.  It isn't hard to teach though and we're  
happy to do that.
     o- Operations Hacking.  If you think writing SNMP pollers and  
monitoring systems is elite, that's what we want to hear.  If you  
dream about building highly available systems at night, let us know.
     o- Datacenter workings.  If you've worked in a datacenter  
environment before, great.  This job will likely involve racking gear  
and working in a datacenter.  That should be old hat for you or sound  
really cool to you.
